“ਨਕਿ ਨਥ ਖਸਮ ਹਥ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਧਕੇ ਦੇ ॥ ਜਹਾ ਦਾਣੇ ਤਹਾਂ ਖਾਣੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਚੁ ਹੇ ॥੨॥” (SGGS Jee, 653). Guru Angad Dev Jee has presented an ultimate truth to us that we either don’t know, or we don’t understand, or we simply don’t want to understand. Some people think they are too smart or they’re trying to mislead people or maybe they are Government’s puppets on social media who are unnecessarily trying to create a chaos on reverse migration. Migration is a natural phenomenon which has been going on for years, and will continue for years to come. Because Lord has pre-determined the place of food and water for a person and He takes the person to that place to pick those grains of life. When a place becomes empty then someone gets to that place to fill it. This is all Lord’s game. So it’s not humane to hate the person who went to fill the void of a place. Because even that person went for their own growth, within Lord’s Will, to pick up their scattered grains. Guru Sahib mention ““ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਆਸੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਬੈਠਾ ॥ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਵੁਠਾ ॥ ਸਭੇ ਸਾਝੀਵਾਲ ਸਦਾਇਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਜੀਉ ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੯੭)”. Migration isn’t just the movement and settlement from one country to another. Even when a person moves from one village to another or from village to a city, that’s also migration. When a person moves from one province to another, that is also called migration. Wherever Lord has pre-determined that a person has to go and pick their grains, the person has to go to that place. Then it can be through migration, for their job, or movement to another province’s jail through government.
First, I will talk about myself. During the Kharkoo movement, even I had to go to jail for a night. When the person who came to help with our release got to the jail, the officer on duty was away and no one else could release us. I remember that the person who came to help (Sub inspector Mangal Singh), who was my friend’s father-in-law, sent 2 rotis with Gobi Di Sabzi from jail’s kitchen for me. I used to avoid eating from outside at that time so I refused to eat that food. My friend’s father in law came again with food and suggested me to eat the food as that food has brought me to the jail (to pick up the scattered grains which have been pre-determined). I started to eat food. I only had one roti when the officer in charge returned and we got the message that he had called for me. I left the 2nd roti and went. He asked some questions and then released us. Till date, I think that it was that one roti that took me to the jail. I never wanted to come to Canada either but it was my scattered grains that brought me here (I won’t write the details of that scenario here as the essay will go too long, I might write about it some other time).
Guru Arjan Dev Jee writes that this entire earth belongs to saints but some thieves are ruling on it. “ਸਲੋਕ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਤਸਕਰ ਬੈਸਹਿ ਗਾਹਿ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੯੬੫). It’s pretty obvious because, first, the invaders captured it and distributed their areas. Then they named them as different countries. With time, this distribution kept changing. If we just talk about India, then the distribution of the country was different before Mughal’s time. Later, it changed during the British invasion. After some time, when Britishers left or they had to leave, then the politicians divided the country into 2 parts, India and Pakistan, for their own selfish motives. This divided Punjab. These politicians sucked the blood of our ancestors, left them homeless and even our religious places were divided into 2 parts. Our ancestors were turned into refugees, which is worse than migration. Immigrants are able to wrap up their belongings, property etc. but our ancestors weren’t even able to save the lives of their family members. This way our ancestors lived through the tortures of governments considering it as Lord’s Will of picking up scattered grains. Then the politicians with bad intentions divided the emerging Punjab into 3 divisions. This way relatives become migrants for each other. This can all be done only by thieves whose intentions are bad. Lord has joined the entire Earth. That’s probably why our Guru Sahib stayed in migration. The Earth that was made for meditating on Lord has been divided up by these political thieves. Wherever Lord loving people sit, that place becomes blessed. “ਜਿਥੈ ਬੈਸਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹੰਦਾ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੩੧੯)
If the pre-determined scattered grains of a person have taken them to a different country to pick them up (in whichever way) then one should stay in Lord’s Will and pick them. If one has forgotten Lord then no matter where they stay, in their country or another, they will never be happy. Gurbani mentions “ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਨਾ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ- ੨੧੦). If someone thinks that gathering a lot of wealth, or seeing different countries and cultures will bring happiness, then Gurbani doesn’t support that. Lord says that if a person wants all the happiness they they should meditate on Lord. “ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁਤੈ ਧਨਿ ਖਾਟੇ ॥ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਪੇਖੇ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨਾਟੇ ॥ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬਹੁ ਦੇਸ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੧੧੪੭). Similarly, another verse from Gurbani mentions “ ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਭਾਈ ॥ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਹਿ ਬਤਾਈ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੧੧੮੨). So wherever Lord has taken us, we must continue to praise that Lord and accept it as Lord’s Will “ਜਿਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਬਹੀਐ ਭਲਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਝੋਲਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ- ੭੬੫-੬੬)। .
Migration is a natural phenomenon. I never wanted thought about leaving India. I even refused the opportunities to go abroad 2-3 times. But the pre-determined scattered grains pulled me into Canada. Now I am happy here. Yes I definitely have to work and one should work. The 1st pillar in the 3 pillars of Sikhism is to earn an honest living. Except for the political thieves, people who don’t work in India are dying of hunger. Infact people who are committing suicide in Punjab are going in that direction because they are not being rewarded fairly for all their hard work.
The people who say that the kids who go abroad are spoiled, are all useless talks. The ones who are going to be spoiled are being spoiled in Punjab as well as abroad. The ones who’re not paying attention to their kids or the ones who are spoiled themselves, can only be saved by Lord. Guru Sahib has taken the sewa from me, of teaching paath to kids in Punjab as well as here. The kids here are coming towards Sikhi a lot more than Punjab. I have about 6-8 kids in the class who started learning Punjabi from scratch and have now memorized the entire Sundar Gutka. They have completed 2 Sehaj Paath and the 3rd one is being done from Larivaar Saroop. There are about 100 kids from different parts of Canada and USA who are learning path, Sikh history and Sikh culture in the online classes. I never had these many kids in the class in Punjab. If we want the kids to connect to Sikh culture then we have to understand our own responsibility instead of blaming another country or the people from another region. It’s true that not everyone can be the same in a given place. There are many who are working as labourers within Punjab then why are we only speaking bad about the ones who work as labourers abroad. Why aren’t we seeing the successful people abroad? Why can’t we see that the chief of the World Bank is a Sikh? Why can’t we see the Punjabis in Canadian parliament? How many Punjabis are there in Indian parliament? This is all worth thinking. The reality is that the governments are trying to mislead the common public. They are gathering votes on the name of religion, caste, and professions in a free manner. Now they are under threat from people who are migrants in Punjab. Because they won’t get their votes on the name of religion and caste. That’s why they’re creating this chaos. The kids of all politicians and the ‘Baabey” are settled abroad and they’re telling people to bring the money from abroad to Punjab. They are sending their own money to the banks in abroad (black money). They want the people from abroad to send money to India so they can take benefit from that transfer through taxes or some other way. They’re asking people in abroad to come back to Punjab but they’re making people of Punjab unemployable so they can get their votes. When a person is getting food without working, then why will the person work. If there is no labourer/employee then who will work. I am not saying that labor class should not go towards success. They most definitely should go towards success and for that to happen, study and health should be available for free so that children of rich or poor can study and work according to their capabilities and not based on charity. Gurbani says ““ ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥” {ਪੰਨਾ 1245}. Here Guru Sahib is referring to earning an honest living and sharing with others. These politicians are going against the Guru Sahib’s philosophy. So the politicians should act and show us what they can do and then the people will come back on their own. Other countries didn’t send an invitation to anyone. The politicians need to stop instigating people on the name of religion. Guru Sahib mention in Gurbani that no place is good or bad “ਜੈਸਾ ਮਗਹਰੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾਸੀ ਹਮ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੀ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੯੬੯)”. The Brahmins of Kashi said that people who die in Maghar are re-born as a donkey and the ones who die in Kashi go to heaven. Bhagat Kabeer Jee went to Maghar during his last days of life on purpose to challenge this notion “ਜੈਸਾ ਮਗਹਰੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾਸੀ ਹਮ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੀ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੯੬੯). There is no part of Earth that is bad, it’s all good. It’s a person’s thoughts and actions that are good or bad. There is no work/job that is bad. The work that sucks out the blood of a person is bad, or in simple words, the work where the employee is being tortured in some way. You can do any work while meditating on Lord in any part of the Earth, you’ll be in bliss. A Sikh should follow the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Jee. If Sikhs didn’t migrate then how could the teachings of Guru Nanak spread in the entire world? Maybe that’s the reason Guru Nanak Dev Jee stayed as a migrant. Guru Nanak Dev Jee was born in Raye Bhoye Dee Talwandi (Nankana Sahib now in Pakistan) where Raye Bulaar even donated them 625000 acres of land. Till date, this land is on the name of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. HE had some leased land in Kartarpur and stayed there and worked as a farmer. When He blessed Guru Angad Dev Jee to be the 2nd Guru, He asked them to go to Khadoor. Then Guru Angad Dev Jee asked Guru Amardas Jee to go to Goindwal and Guru Amardas Jee told Guru Ramdaas Jee to create a city in Amritsar. Guru Hargobind Sahib Jee created Akal Takhat Sahib yet they didn’t stay in the city of Amritsar that their ancestors built. Instead He goes to Keeratpur and never returned to Amritsar. Even the 9th Guru didn’t stick to Keeratpur, instead He created a city in Makhowal. The 10th Guru created many forts in Anandpur but left the city. He never even went to Amritsar. Guru Gobind Singh Jee went outside of Punjab to the city of Nanded in Maharashtra and gave the Guriyaayi to Guru Granth Sahib Jee over there. This all makes one thing very clear that none of the Guru Sahib held onto one place. They gave utmost importance to Shabad Guru and preached the Shabad Guru. Or we can say that Guru Sahib has lived what Bhagat Kabeer Jee mentioned “ਜੈਸਾ ਮਗਹਰੁ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾਸੀ ਹਮ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੀ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੯੬੯) to explain us that the entire world belongs to the One Lord. Lord doesn’t reside in any one specific place “ਅਲਹੁ ਏਕੁ ਮਸੀਤਿ ਬਸਤੁ ਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਮੁਲਖੁ ਕਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ॥” (ਪੰਨਾ-੧੩੪੯), in fact He stays in every place and every heart. The ones who love Lord make the place blissful wherever they sit ”ਜਿਥੈ ਬੈਸਨਿ ਸਾਧ ਜਨ ਸੋ ਥਾਨੁ ਸੁਹੰਦਾ ॥”(ਪੰਨਾ ੩੧੯). So come and let’s adopt the philosophy of Guru Sahib. This way we will escape the cheap tricks of these thieves and have a blissful life.
